Ask PAX: Charging Your Device

Got a question about PAX devices and products? We've got answers.

Hey PAX,

I received a PAX Era device for my birthday last year. I typically use it until it runs out of charge, then I’ll charge it when I’m ready to use it again. The issue I’m having is that it seems to take a really long time to charge. Is that normal? I really like this little device. It was a gift (and it’s engraved!) I really don’t want to have to buy a new one. What do I do?

Hi Totally Drained,

I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying your PAX Era device. As for the charging issue, I think I know what’s happening. It turns out that storing a PAX Era device for an extended amount of time with a low or dead battery can actually make it difficult to recharge the battery to full capacity when you're ready to use it again. Why is that? Allow me to get all science-y for a minute.

For devices run by lithium-ion batteries, storing them when the battery is fully discharged could push the batter into what’s called a deep discharge state. This can actually render the battery incapable of holding a full charge in the future. Think of a lithium-ion battery like a stomach. If you reduce your food intake for a prolonged period of time, you’ll find it difficult to eat more than that for a while. That’s because your stomach shrank and can no longer accommodate the volume of food you previously ate.

So, if you plan to store your device for prolonged periods of time, always make sure that your device is charged at least 50% before you put it away.

Give this a try and let me know if it helps.

Happy puffing,

PAX
