As a company who uses overseas manufacturers to assemble our devices, we wholeheartedly welcome and encourage consumers to educate themselves about the products they purchase, including PAX. The recent article in the New York Times spotlighted just how many unregulated and counterfeit manufacturers can be found in China. Rest assured Ploom is not one of them.
Our overseas manufacturing process is completely managed and controlled by Ploom's in-house engineers, the same engineers who designed PAX with quality as a first priority. Part of this management and oversight includes multiple stages of testing for raw materials and finished goods. Furthermore, the design of the product is such that any components that touch the user’s mouth, as well as all the components inside the device that provide a path for vapor from the oven, are food-safe, BPA free and medical grade, including high-temp, space-age plastics, the stainless steel that is used in our ovens and screens, and the anodization of our aluminum materials.
The New York Times article is an excellent reminder that consumers should always exercise caution when purchasing devices from unknown resellers, as the quality, reliability and safety of these products is uncertain and in some cases may expose the user to serious dangers not encountered with genuine Ploom products.
Ploom has also been a recent victim of the same unregulated and counterfeit manufacturers referenced in the article, and we consider the fight against counterfeiting to be a long-term commitment to quality and service to our customers. In 2014 Ploom organized and deployed a devoted team who actively pursues and investigates counterfeit manufacturers and resellers. Ploom has worked both with Homeland Security and international security forces to hold domestic resellers of these products legally accountable and raid and shut down counterfeit manufacturers in China. Ploom is committed to finding counterfeiters and taking legal action against them, since many people do not understand the global ramifications of counterfeiting nor the cycle of abuse they are supporting when purchasing counterfeit goods.
